Comfort Food!!

We all have those 'comfort foods', whether it's cold outside, we're feeling under the weather or it's just plain been a bad day.. these foods make us feel better. Sometimes it's a favorite childhood dish that mom made... sometimes it came from a box. Grapes hosting this month and we had a special guest... Olive. (and no one prepared from a box!!)

Dinner was served at a Thanksgiving ready table complete with Pilgrim hat/autumn leaf placesettings.

Our selections of wine included:

                                                              Zen of Zin                            Mementos
Gnarly Head

For our first course, Paprika brought her mom's "should-be-famous' dill dip with veggies and pretzels!

Grapes served individual Chicken Pot Pies... no worries.. she made Vegetarian pot pies for the veggie lovers!

Saucy made a delicious Mac & Cheese with a secret 'saucy' ingredient... butternut squash. YUM!

and for dessert, Couscous brought her childhood favorite cake.. a spice cake with a maple syrup icing.. Man, i NEED that recipe. It was simply delightful for dessert... and breakfast the next morning!! :)

Stayed tuned for our December dinner club info!

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!!!!!

    1. Christy - good luck with that! I'm the only one who actually follows the recipe to the letter (or number as the case may be!) The others always tweak the dishes!!

  2. Good job on the blog with a slight correction: I DID prepare from a box! Mom's recipe! The frosting was from scratch though!

Pot pie's were great - those weren't no Banquet frozen pot pies! (Anyone else put your initials on the top with a fork before they baked???)

  3. Spice Cake with Maple Frosting:

Make Duncan Hines boxed spice cake per directions. Cool.

    Maple Frosting:
1/4cup shortening or butter or margarine
    1/2 teaspoon salt
    1/3 cup maple blend syrup
    2 teaspoons vanilla
3 cups confectioners sugar (sift if lumpy)
3 tablespoons milk (use 2 tablespoons milk with butter or margarine)

Combine shortening, salt, syrup, vanilla, and 1 cup sugar. Add milk and remaining sugar alternately; mix until smooth and creamy. Add more sugar to thicken or milk to thin, if needed for good spreading consistency.
